A Fire Spirit

This goddess of flame lives in ever lasting torment, for everything she touches catches fire. Her dance is one of rage and longing. She longs to see the fresh green shoots of spring, to smell wet grass and blooming flowers. To see animals asleep and peaceful in their dens. But she cannot, for her gift to the world is the cleansing fires that make way for new life. New life that cannot come to be until she moves on, continuing her whirling raving maddened dance of despair, until, exhaustion allows her to sleep. Under blankets of rain and deep snow she will dream of a sunset not tainted by smoke and a breath of air not swirling with ash. Until, when the days grow long and arid, she will awake, and start her tormented dance again.
