A Forest Spirit

A pregnant pause in a deep dark wood. The ancient and timeless forest spirit breathes in the earthy, wet smell of new growth and decay, the endless spinning cycle of the forest floor. In front of her the forest wilts and dies, needles fall to the ground to form a thick soft blanket, mushrooms dance and sway and fall back down into the earth. Her feet sow seeds wherever she steps, evergreens, ferns, and poison ivy spring up behind her. She brings beauty and decay wherever she goes in an unbroken cycle of life and death. But at this moment, she just waits. For what? Or whom?
